Chin Implant Aliso Viejo

Chin Augmentation or Reduction (Mentoplasty)
Does your chin stick out too far – or not far enough?
When to consider Chin Surgery

Your chin is one of your most distinctive facial features. If yours seems to disappear into your neck or is out of proportion with your forehead, cheeks and nose, chin augmentation or reduction surgery can greatly improve your appearance.

Chin surgery, also known as mentoplasty, is a relatively straightforward procedure that can significantly enhance your facial structure and increase your self-confidence. Dr. Robinson can strengthen your profile by correcting a weak chin or reducing one that appears too prominent. The surgery can involve reshaping your chin bones, moving them forward or using implants to achieve facial proportion.

Dr. Ernest B. Robinson is a Board Certified Specialist in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery with more than 20 years of experience performing cosmetic and corrective otoplasty on his patients from Orange County and beyond. Communicating your goals for this procedure

During your consultation appointment, Dr. Robinson will explain how redefining your lower jaw will give your face balance and symmetry. He’ll take your complete medical history and examine your facial structure to determine how he will create a new jawline to enhance your natural features. He also will discuss realistic expectations, explain how chin implant or reduction surgery is performed and answer any questions you may have. As with other facial procedures, cosmetic chin surgery can be a stand-alone treatment, but to achieve natural looking results, Dr. Robinson’s patients often combine it with other procedures, such as nose reshaping or facial liposuction.

Surgical techniques to achieve your desired outcome

Dr. Robinson performs chin enhancement surgeries at the Robinson Facial Plastic Surgery office and at Pacific Hills Surgery Center, using either local or general anesthesia. If you are having implant surgery, Dr. Robinson will begin by making an incision inside your mouth or in the natural crease line under your chin. He will gently stretch the tissue in front of your chin bone and under the muscle to create space for the implant. Then he’ll position it, secure it to the bone with dissolvable sutures and close the incision with stitches.

Dr. Robinson uses a natural feeling implant material developed more than 50 years ago that is biocompatible with your body’s tissue. Chin implants are made to be firm, flexible and infection resistant and are available in a variety of shapes and sizes to accommodate your individual facial structure.

If Dr. Robinson is reducing or reshaping your chin, he will make an incision inside your mouth along your lower gum. Then he will reposition the bones into the desired position, secure them into place and close the incision. Surgery can take from one to three hours, depending on the extent of the procedure.

Recuperating after your Chin Surgery

he doctor will apply a dressing or bandages that you will wear for two to three days. It’s normal to experience mild swelling, bruising or discomfort in the first 24 to 48 hours after your procedure, which can be treated with mild pain medication. Chewing will limited for the first 24 hours and you’ll be placed on a soft food diet for the first day or two. It’s important to have someone stay with you to assist in your care for the first few days; if you’re away from home our staff can help you arrange for after care.

Dr. Robinson will remove your stitches after a week or two. The average recovery time following chin surgery is less than a week, but you may feel up to resuming your normal activities within a few days.

Expected results from this procedure

Chin implant or reduction surgery will create structural balance in your face, enhancing your appearance in a remarkable way. You’ll notice the initial outcome almost immediately, but your newly refined jawline won’t fully emerge until the swelling subsides, usually within four to six weeks. Incisions inside your mouth leave no visible scarring. If an incision was made under your chin, the scar should fade, becoming imperceptible over time, when properly cared for and protected from the sun.
