Facelift Aliso Viejo
Facelift (rhytidectomy)
Could your looks use a lift?
When to consider a facelift
Have you ever caught a glimpse of your reflection and wondered when you started looking more like your mom or dad than yourself? Through a combination of heredity, overall health, gravity, sun exposure and personal habits as you age, the skin on your face and neck will begin to lose elasticity and muscle tone. If you’re bothered by your softening facial features, visible forehead creases, deepening crow’s feet or loosening jaw line, you may have considered restorative cosmetic surgery to reduce these telltale signs of aging and regain a more youthful image.
Facelifts are among the most desired procedures for patients of the Robinson Plastic Surgery Center. While a facelift, also called a rhytidectomy, won’t alter your natural features or turn back the clock 20 years, it will remarkably enhance your overall appearance by reducing the visible signs of aging on your face, jowl and neckline. It’s not surprising that Dr. Robinson’s facelift patients also experience increased confidence and an improved personal outlook following the surgery.
Dr. Ernest B. Robinson is a board-certified specialist in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery with more than 20 years of experience performing individualized facelifts for his patients from Aliso Viejo, Irvine, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Lake Forest and Mission Viejo in Orange County and beyond. Communicating your goals for this procedure
As with any cosmetic surgery, the success of your facelift will depend greatly on realistic expectations of the surgical outcome. During your consultation, Dr. Robinson will examine your face, take a thorough medical history and explore your motivation for considering a facelift. He’ll describe the procedure in detail, discuss the surgical limitations and answer any questions you may have. You and Dr. Robinson will have an honest discussion about expected results to help you decide if a facelift will achieve your desired outcome.
Many patients decide to have other rejuvenation surgeries in conjunction with a facelift to achieve facial balance, such as chin implant surgery, forehead lift or eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). To further enhance the overall effect of your facelift and ensure the most favorable results, Dr. Robinson also may suggest non-surgical treatments to reduce wrinkles or improve your skin’s tone and texture.
Surgical techniques to achieve your desired outcome
Dr. Robinson performs facelifts at Pacific Hills Surgery Center using general anesthesia. He begins the surgery by making well camouflaged incisions hidden behind your ears and in the natural creases of your skin, which he lifts in order to tighten and reposition the underlying muscle and connective tissue on your face. He also may make a tiny incision under your chin to lift an aging neck. He will remove any accumulated fat and re-drape the skin, trimming any excess before closing the incisions with ultrafine sutures. A thin tube may be inserted to drain excess fluid that could accumulate under your skin.
Following the surgery, Dr. Robinson will apply a dressing to protect the stitches and minimize bruising and swelling while you heal. The entire process takes from three to five hours, depending on the extent of your surgery and if you’re having other procedures performed at the same time.
Recuperating after your facelift
You’ll be discharged a few hours after this relatively painless procedure with a prescription for medication to treat mild discomfort and instructions to elevate your head and apply cold compresses to minimize post-surgical swelling and bruising. It’s important to have someone at home to assist in your care for the first few days; if you’re away from home our staff can help you arrange for after care.
If a drainage tube was used during surgery, Dr. Robinson will remove it after a day or two and remove the stitches within about a week. You should experience little pain during your recovery period, usually about 10 days to two weeks, after which you’ll be cleared to return to work and resume your normal social activities.
Expected results from this procedure
After about a week the majority of swelling and bruising subsides and you’ll begin to notice your face has a more rested and youthful appearance. The incisions, concealed within your hairline, in the natural contours of your face and behind your ears, will fade away and any residual swelling will disappear after about six months, when you’ll enjoy a renewed self-confidence as your reflection reveals the long-lasting, natural looking results of Dr. Robinson’s skilled surgical hands.
