Chemical Peel Aliso Viejo

When to consider a chemical peel

If you’re bothered by fine facial lines, sun or age spots, acne scars or uneven skin tone, talk to Dr. Robinson about having a chemical peel, one of the least invasive treatments available to rejuvenate your complexion and restore your youthful radiance. A chemical peel will revitalize the appearance of your skin and provide dramatic, long-lasting results.

Facial chemical peels are performed at Robinson Facial Plastic Surgery offices using topical solutions that exfoliate the outer layers of dead cells to effectively erase visible imperfections and improve your skin’s clarity, texture and tone. “Peeling” away these top layers not only reveals smoother, softer skin, it stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, which helps to tighten and tone your face.

Before your chemical peel, Dr. Robinson will examine your skin and, depending on its condition, recommend a solution or a combination of solutions, which vary in strength for superficial, medium or deep penetration. The process can take as few as 15 minutes, but more involved procedures may last closer to an hour.

Chemical peels involve minimal down time, though the healing period increases slightly with deeper peels. It’s common to experience some mild tenderness, flaking or irritation in the days following your chemical peel, which are easily treated with over the counter products. After your treatment, your face will be more susceptible to sun damage, so you’ll be advised to protect your newly emerging skin.

If your face could use a pick-me-up, come to Robinson Facial Plastic Surgery for a chemical peel evaluation. We’ll custom blend a treatment to give you a healthy, youthful glow and reveal your smooth, blemish-free skin within. Call, or complete this form and schedule your appointment with Dr. Robinson to discuss chemical peels and the other minimally invasive rejuvenation treatments that will help reverse the signs of aging on your face. Dr. Robinson and staff welcome patients from Aliso Viejo, Irvine, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo and nearby locations.

TCA Peel

TCA Peel By Dr. Face

TCA (trichloracetic acid) is a nontoxic chemical used to perform skin peels for the last 20 years. Related to vinegar (acetic acid), TCA applied to the skin causes the top cell layers to dry up and peel off over the course of about one week. This exposes a new layer of undamaged skin with a smoother texture and even coloration. TCA peels are most commonly used to:

  • Reduce brown spots and age spots
  • Improve the texture of leathery, sun-damaged skin and impart more glow
  • Improve melasma (tan or dark skin discoloration, common in pregnant women)
  • Treat some types of acne
  • Reduce fine lines

Some physicians prefer TCA peels for treating sun damage or melasma, often combined with prescription creams. TCA peels are safe when performed by an experienced practitioner.

How Do TCA Peels Work?

They work by removing a layer of sun-damaged skin. As we progress from medium to deep peels, each layer of skin removed is greater as we increase strength of the TCA peel solution. A solution that is too strong increases the risk of complications like uneven pigmentation and scarring. TCA peels are performed at different skin depths from shallow to deep.

Lighter TCA peels are usually done in a series of two or three for best results. This is similar to other light peels that usually involve hydroxy acids such as glycolic, salicylic or a mixture of other hydroxy acids. Medium-depth TCA peels are usually done once or twice a year and do require some downtime – usually about a week – when the peeling is obvious.

What Areas Can Be Treated With TCA Peels?

We can treat your face, neck, chest, arms, back and legs. TCA peels are often more economical because we can treat larger areas at less cost than using a laser. It’s important to realize that nonfacial areas do not heal as well facial areas, and the results are less predictable. Expert practitioners never peel more than a small percentage of the body at one time to avoid potential toxicity. A TCA peel can resurface and tighten your skin while stimulating collagen growth. Keep in mind that risks may also be greater unless the physician is very experienced with TCA peels on the human body.

Patient Testimonials

Dr. Robinson changed my life...

Dr. Robinson changed my life. He was recommended to me as I had never had any type of work done and he exceeded my expectations. The procedures that Dr. Robinson performed clearly took 15 years off. I am 55 and I constantly get shocked responses from people who think I am 15 years younger. The work was subtle and my experience with the surgery and the healing process was very positive. I cannot thank Dr. Robinson enough for giving me back my youth.
