Nose Surgery Aliso Viejo
Nose surgery (rhinoplasty)
Is your nose bent out of shape? (Or maybe it never quite fit your face?)
When to consider nose surgery
People who consider having nasal cosmetic surgery are motivated by a variety of very personal reasons. After all, your nose is your most prominent facial feature!
Maybe you feel you never quite “grew into your nose,” despite your mother’s assurances that you’d love it someday. Or the bump on your beak feels less like a badge of honor from your varsity days and more like a breathing obstruction. What if you’re so over being told you look just like your Great Aunt Henrietta, even though she’s your favorite relative (and you did inherit her lovely smile)?
Surgical nose reshaping, also known as rhinoplasty or having a “nose job,” can enhance your appearance, boost your self-confidence and even improve your health. Cosmetic and corrective nasal procedures are among the most common treatments performed on patients of Robinson Facial Plastic Surgery in Aliso Viejo.
Through cosmetic rhinoplasty, Dr. Robinson can reshape your nose so it’s in proportion with your other facial features to create a more attractive profile. Using the most up-to-date surgical techniques, Dr. Robinson can reduce or increase the size of your nose, alter the shape of its tip or bridge, narrow or widen your nostril span, or adjust the angle between your nose and upper lip. Patients from all over Southern California choose Dr. Robinson to perform their reconstructive rhinoplasty, whether it’s to improve breathing capacity or correct an abnormal appearance caused by a birth defect, trauma, accident or disease.
Dr. Ernest B. Robinson is a Board Certified Specialist in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery with more than 20 years of experience performing individualized procedures for his patients from around Southern California, including Aliso Viejo, Irvine, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Lake Forest and Mission Viejo. Communicating your goals for this procedure
During a consultation appointment, you and Dr. Robinson will discuss in detail your motivation for considering rhinoplasty and your desired surgical outcome, be it cosmetic, reconstructive or both. After taking your complete medical history and examining the structure of your nose, Dr. Robinson will discuss realistic expectations and describe the specific techniques he recommends to achieve your surgical goals. He also may suggest other elective procedures that can further enhance your facial features, such as a cheek lift or chin augmentation or reduction.
Surgical techniques to achieve your desired outcome
Rhinoplasty procedures usually take about two hours and are performed at Pacific Hills Surgery Center using local or general anesthesia. Dr. Robinson will make incisions inside your nostrils to access your nasal bones, cartilage and soft tissue, which he will delicately reshape to improve the external contour of your nose or repair its function. These interior incisions will not be visible after surgery.
If your procedure involves reshaping your nostrils, Dr. Robinson will make tiny incisions at the outer base of your nose that, when properly cared for and protected from the sun, should fade completely over time. After he has made the adjustments, Dr. Robinson will reposition your nasal tissue and close the incisions with stitches.
Recuperating after your nose surgery
When your nasal surgery is complete, Dr. Robinson will place a small, custom-made splint on your nose that you’ll wear for about a week to protect the new structure and keep it properly positioned. Some patients also go home with nasal packing, which will be removed at a follow-up appointment within 24-48 hours.
It’s normal for your face to feel puffy after surgery, especially within the first 24 hours. You also may experience slight bruising or swelling around your eyes, tenderness around your nose, mild headaches or minimal bleeding. This initial discomfort is easily controlled with mild pain medication.
Dr. Robinson will advise you about post-procedure care and let you know when it’s safe to resume your normal activities, usually after four or five days of healing. You may be cleared to resume moderate exercise about a week after surgery, but you should refrain from strenuous physical activity for several weeks.
Expected results from this procedure
The majority of swelling and bruising from rhinoplasty will progressively subside within a week or two, and you can expect to see noticeable results in as few as three months. Because it takes time for tissue to heal completely, it can take up to a year before you see the final outcome of your nose surgery.
If your nose is too large for your face or bent out if shape, you can have it corrected and improve your appearance. Robinson Facial Plastic Surgery provides nose surgery. Call (949) 831-5900 or use our convenient Request an Appointment form to learn more.
